Firing copper metal clay is not difficult if you follow simple steps although it does require a different approach than silver clay as well as requiring a kiln for firing.
The things that you will need are a 1-4 inch metal pan with a lid, 1 removal fork, activated carbon granules and copper clay pieces ready to fire.

The first thing that needs to be done is to make sure that the copper clay is thoroughly dry, then get the metal plate out and fill it with activated carbon about 1 inch deep.
Then place the pieces on the top of the carbon evenly so that they are around half and inch apart. The next step is to pour more carbon over the pieces, filling the rest of the pan.
Position the kiln furniture inside the kiln in a square format, put the lid on the pan and place at the top of the kiln furniture.
Once it is firmly in place, fire up the kiln following the correct safety procedures. For copper metal clay pieces that are larger than 3mm think the kiln should ideally be 1650 degrees f for around two hours. Once the kiln has reached the desired temperature it needs to stay consistently at this temperature for two hours before descending back down, For copper metal clay that is thicker the kiln needs to be firing at the same temperature for around three and a half hours.
When the firing sequence has finished, pull the pan out of the kiln using the correct safety tools. The kiln will be extremely hot so extra caution is needed when removing the pan.
The process is almost complete at this point. The final thing to do is pull out the copper pieces from the carbon. The way to do this is by using a spoon or small device that will allow smaller pieces of copper to be picked up easily and will allow the material to be looked through.
