What's Bakugan? A primer for the Novice
Based on a hit Japanese TV show, Bakugan is a battle game which pits two inch spherical "bakugan fighters" against each other. Each bakugan figure is magnetically loaded so that when it comes in contact with one of its included metal "Ability" cards, the marble shaped fighter opens up into a fierce robot form. These fantastical "Juggernoids," "Fear rippers "and" Robatallians" battle by knocking each other off these special cards or by having higher point values than their opponents. All Bakugan "battle brawlers" also have an elemental theme related to its home world: Pyrus, the world of fire, Aquos, the water world, SubTerra, a world of earth, Haos, a world of cold and ice, Ventus, the world of plants, and finally the evil Darkus, world of-you guessed it, darkness. Combining the many types of monsters with the right elements is just part of the fun of constructing a bakugan fighting team, especially as combining elements with the natural abilities of each type can change the direction of each new game (as well as the point values for each bakugan on the battlefield).
Strategy, Strategy, Strategy!
With so many kinds of bakugan, there's something for almost every kind of player. Not only are there many styles, but many bakugan also have special abilities that are revealed when they unfold in combat. Some change their planetary alignments, while others gain power in combination with other bakugan. But there's more to the game than just having the most powerful bakugan brawler though! Bakugan is played on a battlefield made up of different types of magnetic cards. Players strategically place their cards to gain advantage of location of access to particular powers. By placing the right cards in the field, or by bringing special power up cards into play, the point values of a bakugan can be improved, or the abilities of an opponent neutralized. This element of strategy is one of the things that sets Bakugan apart from other contest games. Winning control of the different cards on the battlefield is an important part of the strategy, as these can be used to launch attacks against your opponents in unusual ways.
Where to discover YOUR Bakugan
You don't have to journey to far off Vestroia to claim your own Bakugan champion. Bakugan come in several types of assortments; there are single figure Booster packs, three figure Starter packs, and Battle Arena packs. There are also Bakugan Battle Shooters in case you want to stylishly launch your heroes into battle instead of lobbing them onto the field, as well as belt storage holders that can contain just your favorites or larger units that can carry entire armies. And if you're a fan of the popular cartoon series, there are figures of the main characters in many different sizes. While they aren't game-playable, they look great on your bookshelf or desk!
